Seventh Field of Fonons [Action/Voice]

[Action]

[Earlier in the month, Jade Curtiss has started to travel outside of the barrier, in order to gain a better sense of the state of the outside world. It was a risky expedition, but he felt that it had to be done in order to look out for any unforeseen threats. And to make sure that this whole situation truly was real. Whatever Jade might have learned on his journey is unknown for the time being. Because when he finally returns to the enclosure, on the day of the Malnosso announcement, he's afflicted by a Natural Shift which impairs his memories.

Well, not just his memories. Jade Curtiss returns to Luceti as Jade Balfour, a 12 year old fonic prodigy. This Shift has left him without any of his adult memories, although it has curiously left him retaining a memory of the basics of life in Luceti. It might be easy to recognize the similarities to his adult self. However, for the most part he is humorless and uncaring about others, and he hasn't yet taken to wearing glasses.

Jade doesn't alert anyone of his return; he can't even remember for sure what people from his world are here anyway. But he can be found at a variety of places throughout the village. At the library, he compiles a series of various books to research. He's very curious about the types of abilities found in other worlds. Perhaps that could help him in his latest thoughts, which involve trying to find a way to channel the Seventh Fonon. He spends a lot of time in the Battle Dome as well, where he uses his fonic artes, already more advanced then they should be in his age, in a number of simulations. Mostly, the simulations are set in snowy environments that are like his home world, and this involves him facing a number of deadly beasts that may or may not be outside of his range. He has to practice, he knows that he can't rely on the Professor to pull him out of danger forever.

Otherwise, he can be found exploring the general area, trudging through the snow - the environment being a small reminder of his home. Maybe he'll make some snowballs, for the express purpose of target practice on random passersby...]

[Voice]

[Later, he uses the journal system to try to contact the masses. He'll just leave out little things like who he is and the facts relating to his lack of memory. He actually hasn't seen the new Malnosso post either.]

I'm wondering what types of artes you practice in your own world. Perhaps you know it as 'magic' or some other specialized term. Which abilities are common and easy for one to learn, and which are exceptionally difficult or rare?

[The library just so happens to be one of Gelda's regular hangouts as well. The announcement from the Malnosso- no, the World of Their Future organization has left her lost in thought for the most part. Going home... Overcoming their own weaknesses in order to achieve it... It's all very daunting, especially in her own situation.

Going home would be for the best. She'd be ignoring her own lessons about life and death if she chose to stay. If staying were even possible.

At first, she doesn't notice the boy who has his face buried in a book. Not until she throws another glance his way does she truly see it. An image she hasn't seen in, well, more than four years. Technically, it would have been that long, because her 'going home' hadn't allowed her to experience anything from home.

She stands frozen on the spot for a few seconds, and then:]

Jade?

[Snowballs, you say? Well, here's an unsuspecting passerby right now. Simon is trekking his way through the snow with a bit of difficulty, Taka perched on his shoulder. Having to cope with weather like this is something he hadn't had to do while he was in prison for all those years, nor had he ever once come to miss it. Freedom comes with trouble of its own.

Will Jade dare to use this guy (or his hawk) for target practice?]
jadedpast: (this is what you want isn't it)

[Jade glances up sharply when he heard that familiar voice, turning away from the contents of a book on strategies associated with naval warfare. It's her. He wasn't sure if anyone else from his world was truly here. He started to wonder if he was alone. But at the same time, he trusted the professor to show up where she was needed.]

Professor. [He stands up, closes the book and approaches her. There's a hint of a smile on his face.] I knew that you had to be here as well.

[He looks even more out of place than most tourists he's seen around Keterburg. An unusual fellow to be sure, with his striking dark hair and - had he tamed some kind of bird to ride on his shoulder? Interesting. Jade wonders if it's some kind of monster.

Naturally Jade dares. He watches the man pass by and waits until he's some yards away. Then with some snow scooped up in his hands, he takes aim right at the middle of the man's back, and he pelts the snowball right at it.]

[That feather crest probably functions as a great bullseye, doesn't it? Simon's too preoccupied trying to clear a path through the snow to notice what's going on behind him, so the snowball catches both him and Taka offguard. He jumps and the hawk screeches in his ear, its nearest wing whacking him upside the head.]

What the devil?! [Better hide, Jade, because he's whirling around on the spot to see where that snowball came from.]

[So Jade recognizes her... Jade recognizes her and isn't at all surprised to see her. Does that mean he retained his older self's memories, or is he so young that he doesn't have certain memories in the first place? His words seem to imply the latter.

She returns that smile with one of her own.]

Is that so? Was that belief based on facts, or simply a hunch?

[It really does. The man turns around almost immediately - good reflexes - and Jade tries to duck behind the snowbank. A fleeting glimpse at the least is certainly likely; Jade isn't quite as skilled as he one day will be.

He tries to remain silent and still, while realizing what he regrets the most about this situation: that Saphir isn't here to be used as a scapegoat.]

[He thinks for a moment.]

I suppose it could count as both. It was an assumption based on preceding facts. You have a habit of showing up in unexpected places, Professor. [Like that time they followed her up Mount Roneal. In fact, that's likely one of his most recent memories at the moment.]

Well, there are iron eres and crystal eres and sacred eres! Oh, and teriques, too. They're very pretty.

[Helpful, this one ain't.]

Sophie bends down to scoop up some snow. She thinks she's being very stealthy.]

[When you've survived enough Keterburg winters and are as perceptive as Jade, there are some things you can tell just by sound alone. So he's sure that he's hearing snow being scooped into the form of a snowball. He knew that he'd face a challenger sooner or later.

So he'll keep listening as he moves, waiting for a move to be made.]
lostinmyway: (Well....)

[Voice] <333!!

[personal profile] lostinmyway 2015-01-21 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
[Grune looks mildly surprised that this boy doesn't think she's being helpful, but then the moment passes.]

Iron eres make you very strong. You can do all kinds of things with crystal eres. And sacred eres are special.

Ready....

Aim....

Fire! With all the force and accuracy a six-year-old can muster. ...Meaning Jade isn't in much danger.]

One at a time... [That seems like the only way to make progress here.] These iron eres - how do they make you very strong? Does it affect muscles or casting strength?

[Jade can hear the snowball being thrown, and as it happens he spins around to throw his at her. He was ready to dodge hers at the same time, but... it didn't quite land close to him.

Whoops.]

There's materia. Just about anybody can use it, if they train to. You use it to cast spells and stuff, elemental or healing or barriers... And there's summons also, but it's not really an ability. Just another tool.

[personal profile] jadedpast 2015-01-21 02:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Hm. [He ponders it over silenly. Healing...]

It sounds like it's a type of specialized resource. Is there any substantial quantity of 'materia' in this place? And how arduous is the training?

[Simon's eyes catch that fleeting glimpse with ease. That snowbank isn't big enough to hide an adult, so it must be a kid. For a split second, he considers letting it slide, but Taka's feathers are still ruffled and that changes his mind. Throwing a snowball at a person is one thing, throwing it at a person and a majestic hawk is another.

He stomps his way towards the snowbank, ready to send a piercing glare down at whatever brat had enough nerve to fling things at him.]
silverworld: (Tell me more)

[She can't quite help herself; she chuckles softly, raising a hand to her mouth. That was a typical Jade statement. There's another underlying implication, of course.]

You find this place to be unexpected for me? Are you referring to the village itself as opposed to the library?
jadedpast: (sigh)

[He hears the man approaching - he must have been careless - and quickly sets himself up for his arrival. He simply sits on the ground, facing the opposite direction and innocently starting to pile up some snow, as if making the base of a snowman.]
jadedpast: (eager)

[personal profile] jadedpast 2015-01-21 05:09 pm (UTC)(link)
The village, of course. [At least she's not cross with him at the moment. He feels relaxed.]

We're not in the same world anymore, so there's no certainty that people I know could be here. [He remembers only the basics of this world; all of his other experiences and knowledge of who is here belong to his adult self.]
bubblywishes: (You don't say...)

[Anyone who really knows Norma, and knows her well, would pick up on the muted tone of her voice that lacks the usual energy, but Norma still remains as bubbly as ever when she speaks up. There's been a lot of stuff to think about with the recent announcement from the...whatever they were called now (not Malnosso!), and Norma's been taking it all in, slowly.]

Artes? Well, where I'm from they're called eres...and there are two types, crystal and iron. Iron eres deals with physical attacks like punches and kicks and weapon stuff...while crystal, which is what I am, deals with elemental spells! Y'know, water, fire, wind, darkness...that kinda stuff! But crystal erens also have the capability to heal wounds and do supportive spells and stuff.

And uh...I dunno about rare or whatever, but I've never seen a person who was both a crystal and iron eren. So I guess that's...something? Also there are people who can't use eres at all! You're supposedly born with the capability to use 'em or not.

Uhhhh... [thinking back to the ENTIRE FUCKING CHEST of materia he has squirreled away and how he doesn't think he's going to just hand it over to some ten year old] The training's not really that tough. I mean- okay, so it's mostly for military use, but it just takes concentration and practice. ...I have a cure type if you wanted to see it. [because what can you fuck up with a cure?]

I'm perfectly capable of concentration and practice. [He practically snaps back. Little colonel in the making.]

...A cure type? I would like to see it. [You have no idea, Cloud.]
