[Jade has kept to himself for most of the month. His latest research topic? Fears. He's had a particularly humiliating and familiar case of gynophobia for almost a month now. Considering the fears that others around him seem to be afflicted with, it was no leap to guess that this was an experiment at work. But it hadn't worn off for him, arousing suspicion. During this time, rather than reflect upon the quiet departure of Luke fon Fabre, Jade has been focusing his research into finding some kind of solution. He is determined to find a way to overcome this fear through his own means - and if he has to help others to get there, then so be it.]

[Jade addresses them casually, leaning over his desk with his fingers steepled together.]

People of Luceti? This is Colonel Jade Curtiss. I have a particular subject that I'd like to bring to your attention. It's come to my attention that a portion of the populace has spontaneously developed phobias without any known origin within the last month. The most likely conclusion would of course be a particularly subtle Malnosso shift. However, if that is so, then this has certainly persisted longer than the usual experiment. It's something that should be dealt with swiftly; currently, it is little more than a hindrance. But in an emergency, reactions to such fears could mean the difference between life and death.

I am trying to work on my own solution to this problem. After all, unlike most problems that result from shifts, phobias are relatively treatable. I'd like to meet with anyone who has exhibited any of these odd fears, even if those fears have somehow left you. I'm well aware that a particularly unpleasant reputation may precede me, but I assure you that I have some practice in matters related to psychotherapy. At the least, I like to believe that I'm more trustworthy than the child whom the Malnosso have in stock. Simply file an appointment into the journal for any time in the week, and I'll speak with you within my workshop in House One.

[Jade will wait in the workshop attached to his room in the second floor of House One for any "patients". Otherwise, throughout the week he can be found frequenting the tea house or the library. He does look up research from other worlds related to the nature of fear.]

[And at the tea house, it's very likely he will run into Freyjadour working his usual shift. His fear was still going strong, sadly, but it wasn't a difficulty at all when he was indoors and out of the sunlight here. He was only forced to carry an umbrella outside.

He comes out of the kitchen when Jade walks in, smiling politely.] Welcome.

[Jade keeps a close eye on Freyjadour as he enters. He does visit the tea shop semi-regularly and likely has been observing him to an extent. If he had spotted him with an umbrella outside, it would certainly be unusual; but it could also be some physical affliction at work.]

Ah, Freyjadour. It's a pleasant day, isn't it? [He smirks and adjusts his glasses slightly as he claims a seat.]

I suppose it is. [Not that Freyjadour was very appreciative of it today or for quite a while now at all. Jade would have probably noticed he was always carrying an umbrella when outdoors, and storing it in the backroom of the tea shop if he ever catches Frey arriving at any point for his shift. He was trying to keep his fear an unobtrusive as possible, after all. He approaches the table Jade takes a seat at, ever genial.] How may I serve you today, Jade?

[It is curious. There's no sign of the umbrella, so whatever it is, it's something that Freyjadour wants to keep hidden. It's possible that there's a skin condition responsible for this behavior, but Jade can't see any physical symptoms at least from his own glances at Frey. He does ponder if it could be a phobia that's connected.

He gives a light wave of his hands as he speaks.]

Why don't you surprise me today? Think up a blend that I haven't tried before.

Speaking of which, have you been feeling absolutely terrified of anything other than the usual?

[If he could figure out whether or not New Feathers were affected as well, it could help him in figuring out the experiment's purpose.]

[If it wasn't misleading, it wouldn't be the Jade they knew and loved, right? Maybe not in so many warm and fluffy words. But it's enough to get an eyeroll from the blond before picking up that topic change.

It's possible that you just haven't been exposed to the proper stimulus. I can try to run some tests. It would be for your own good.

It seems to have been slipped in under the radar when our caretakers oh-so-graciously treated us to a field trip last month. No one else seems to have connected the dots before now. [Don't everyone thank Jade as much. He gives a confident Kanye shrug.]

Hmm...I had found myself afflicted with a sudden fear of fire, despite the fact that the most basic magic spell from my world is fire. The fear seems to have passed now, odd though it may be.

I would say that it has. Though I cannot say if it has passed on its own, or if I've managed to overcome it on my own.

Not all reputations are accurate. And in this care, it's simply irrelevant. [A number of them may be offended primarily by remembering the actions of his Luceti Valley self - and he also considers that there could be leftover people who have bad impressions of him from any of his previous stays here.] I thought it would increase the chances of some likely skeptics reaching the end of the message.

I have noticed a certain odd fear that was not there before. I have faced it and worked to rid myself of it, but it wasn't something that filled me with particular dread, just a certain discomfort.
