That's true. It certainly seems to be an abuse of the power that shifting can give such people over our minds. And it accomplishes the one thing that would otherwise be nearly impossible for us: total unity of the enclosure in service of the one in control. At the least, I know have to give credit to our captors for not keeping us in such a state permanently.
